East Colfax is a neighborhood of about 10,300 people from Quebec Street east to Yosemite Street, between 11th Avenue and Montview Boulevard, with Colfax Avenue running straight through the middle. Montclair is to the west, Aurora is just across Yosemite, and Central Park is a few minutes north.
It is one of the most diverse neighborhoods in Denver, with longtime residents, young buyers and a sizable refugee and immigrant community. Some longtime residents still call the area East Montclair.
What the homes are like
Off Colfax, most streets are lined with modest brick ranches and bungalows from the 1940s and 1950s. Closer to Colfax you will find apartment buildings, older motels from the highway era and newer townhomes. The variety means prices range widely, and the neighborhood remains one of the more affordable ways into east Denver.
What is changing
A bus rapid transit project along East Colfax is underway, aimed at faster, more frequent service between downtown and Aurora. The University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus, one of the region’s largest employers, is just east across Yosemite, which brings steady demand from hospital and research staff. William McNichols Park and New Freedom Park, a community-built park with gardens, give the neighborhood its green space.
