Country Club is one of Denver’s oldest and most prestigious residential neighborhoods, about 3,100 people between Downing Street and University Boulevard, from Cherry Creek north to 8th Avenue. The private Denver Country Club golf course runs along the south edge by the creek, and the neighborhood takes its name from it.
The core of the neighborhood was laid out in 1909 by architects William and Arthur Fisher, working with Frederick Law Olmsted Jr. The streets are wide and lined with old trees, and the homes are large: Tudor Revival, Mediterranean, Colonial Revival and Prairie-style houses, many designed by well-known Denver architects of the day.
A historic district at the center
Much of the neighborhood, roughly 1st to 4th Avenues between Downing and University, is the Country Club Historic District, and the East 7th Avenue Historic District covers more of the blocks to the north. That protection is a big part of why the streetscape looks so much like it did a century ago. It also means exterior changes go through city design review.
Living here day to day
Cherry Creek North’s shops and restaurants are just across University, and the Cherry Creek Trail follows the creek on the south side. Few homes come up for sale in a given year, so buyers here usually need patience and a plan to move quickly.
